CLG grant awards have assisted a wide range of projects, from National Register nominations to underwater archaeology. Click here for a list of grant awards from 2000-2019. Recent recipients include:

2024

Town of Bristol ($13,000)
To develop a Design Review Guidebook for use by the Historic District Commission and applicants, establishing a consistent set of standards for the review of projects in Bristol’s local historic district.

Town of East Greenwich ($25,000)
To complete a reconnaissance archaeological survey of the entire town.

Town of New Shoreham ($14,000)
To undertake non-intrusive archaeological investigations of the “Colored and Indian Cemeteries.”

City of Newport ($23,000)
To research lead hazard adaptation and abatement strategies for historic wood windows and prepare a report and educational content.

2023

Town of Coventry ($10,000) 
To survey Arkwright, Harris and Greene villages

City of Cranston ($16,500)
To prepare a National Register Historic District nomination for Garden City

Town of Cumberland ($12,000)
To prepare a National Register Historic District Nomination for Grant’s Mill

City of East Providence ($8000) 
To complete a condition assessment and preservation plan for Newman Cemetery

City of Providence/Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy ($7500) 
To prepare a National Register Historic District nomination for Neutaconkanut Hill Park

Town of South Kingstown ($20,000)
To survey areas of Matunuck threatened by coastal flooding and sea level rise

2022

Town of Bristol ($25,000)
To re-survey the approximately 600 properties located within the Bristol Waterfront National Register Historic District.

Town of Cumberland ($8000)
To hire a consultant to assist with designating Arnold Mills as a local historic district

City of Newport/Newport Restoration Foundation ($20,000)
Towards hiring a consultant to produce graphics that may include photos, drawings, and architectural renderings of appropriate design concepts for Appendix A to Newport’s Design Guidelines for Elevating Historic Buildings

Town of South Kingstown ($12,250)
To host “CAMP” – a one-day training program open to all Rhode Island Historic District Commission members and related Town interests – in coordination with the National Association of Preservation Commissions.

The Commission also reserved $10,000 to fund an analysis and recommendations for the Rhode Island Historic Preservation Conference.

2021

Town of Bristol ($7,000)
To complete an assessment of resources in the town’s historic district that are located within the 100-year flood plain and potentially endangered by sea level rise and storm events.

City of Cranston ($9,000)
To hire a consultant to update the City’s inventory of historic resources, complete a summary report of current preservation activities in Cranston, and define priorities and goals for the future.

Town of Cumberland ($10,000)
To hire a consultant to complete a feasibility study for the Old Post Office at 16 Mill Street.

Town of North Smithfield ($5,000)
To survey and evaluate the Grange Road area to determine its eligibility for nomination as a National Register Historic District.

City of Providence/Neutaconaknut Hill Conservancy ($9,000)
To hire a consultant to research and evaluate the park’s National Register eligibility and to provide recommendations for its nomination if applicable.

City of Providence/Providence Preservation Society ($8,500)
To diversify the PPS Online Guide to Providence Architecture by adding sites associated with underrepresented groups, and to fund the Diversity in Preservation internship.

City of Warwick ($7,000)
For graphic design, printing, and mailing of the City’s new HDC standards and guidelines.

The Commission also reserved $10,000 to fund planning and coordination of the 2021 Rhode Island Statewide Historic Preservation Conference.

2020

Town of Glocester ($13,700)
For architectural and engineering assistance to support the town’s Historic Revitalization Subgrant Program.

City of East Providence ($10,000)
For a city-wide survey of historic school buildings.

City of East Providence ($9,000)
To hire a consultant to complete an interpretive signage plan for the City.

Town of Bristol/Bristol Historical and Preservation Society ($7,500)
To produce a series of educational videos for property owners in the town’s local historic districts.

Town of Bristol/Coggeshall Farm Museum ($6,000)
To hire an engineering consultant to design a re-grading plan and drainage system for the c. 1790 Coggeshall Farmhouse.

City of Newport/Church Community Housing Corporation ($5,000)
To complete an amendment to the Newport National Historic Landmark District that will incorporate the historic Newport Spring site and highlight its significance.

City of Providence/Preserve Rhode Island ($12,500)
For planning and coordination of the State Historic Preservation Conference and attendee scholarships.

Town of Cumberland ($10,000)
To fund a conditions assessment of Town Hall.

Town of Hopkinton ($7,000)
To hire a consultant to complete a survey of the 14-acre Manitou Hassanassh Preserve.

Town of North Providence ($8,000)
To hire a consultant to complete a conditions assessment of the North Providence Old Town Hall.

City of Pawtucket ($9,000)
To hire a consultant to complete an architectural assessment of the Pawtucket Public Library Sayles Building.

City of Providence ($6,000)
To hire a preservation consultant to prepare all necessary documentation to nominate the former Plymouth Congregational Church at 1014 Broad Street to the National Register of Historic Places.

City of Providence ($10,000)
Delegated to Providence Preservation Society to fund construction documents for the rehabilitation of PPS headquarters at the 1769 Old Brick School House.

The Commission also reserved $10,000 to fund planning and coordination of the 2020 Rhode Island Statewide Historic Preservation Conference.
