Día de Los Muertos | Day of the Dead

Date:

Location: SCCRI SouthLight Pavilion, 93 Broad Street, Providence

Virtual Meeting: https://www.facebook.com/events/3074480209502229

It's time once again for the celebration of the Day of the Dead. This is a time of love, honor, and memory. It is not Mexican Halloween!

In the spirit of this popular Mexican holiday, everybody is invited to partake in this joyful celebration of the family and friends who passed away. Learn about the rich traditions and customs surrounding the Día de los Muertos and similar practices in other cultures.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES: Face painting will be offered ($5) to help you fully get into the spirit of Día de Los Muertos. RILA artist, Jesús de la Torre will lead a craft table for children to make masks and paper flowers.

COMMUNITY ALTAR: Bring flowers and a photo of a deceased loved one you wish to remember and place it on our "ofrenda," community altar. You may bring a luminary, but an open flame is not recommended.

PROCESSION: A fun-filled procession leaving SouthLight will begin at 6:45 pm when we will walk towards Grace Church Cemetery (across Broad Street). Bring a luminary to carry as we make our way to the cemetery. Tours and living history performances will be led by teens from the Manton Avenue Project as we honor the dead who are buried there.

FREE! Families, children are welcome.
